Context and Challenges
In a context combining climate and environmental challenges, airport competitiveness, and financial sustainability, Charleroi Airport must develop effective and high-quality multimodal solutions to meet the current and future needs of passengers, employees, and partners. The objective is to ensure sustainable mobility while enhancing the airport’s attractiveness and operational performance.
Objectives
The study aims to thoroughly analyse multimodal travel flows in current and future situations, to propose sustainable and effective mobility solutions, and to develop a multimodal business plan evaluating the financial and environmental impacts of these solutions.
Methodology
The approach includes a diagnosis of supply and demand, the identification of major trends, a comparative analysis of mobility plans for similar airports, the definition of measures for future supply, and the development of three terrestrial multimodal scenarios.
The solutions evaluated include rail connection, parking management and expansion, strengthening public transport (buses, shuttles, metro-type link), the Flixbus solution, optimisation of road and highway flows, as well as the development of the cycling network.
