Mobility expertise for the redevelopment of the Cité Scientifique campus (EcoCampus project)
The University of Lille is leading a project to redevelop the outdoor spaces and renovate the infrastructure of the Cité Scientifique campus. Designed in the 1960s on an “American-style” model, the site no longer fully meets current needs: urban fragmentation, mobility constraints (more than 25,000 users/day) and sustainable development requirements.
Location: Villeneuve-d’Ascq, France
Client: University of Lille
Date: 2024-2025
Partners: Altitude 35, List, Monono, Eodd, Profil, P2L
Context and Objectives
A framework agreement for urban and public-space design services was awarded to our multidisciplinary team, with the mission of proposing an overall future vision and translating it into operational strategies.
Stratec contributes its expertise in mobility, public realm and road safety within the team.
In practice
From preliminary studies and the draft design phase through to the refinement of the master plan (ongoing), Stratec’s consultants have contributed to:
- preparing the multimodal diagnosis (mobility behaviours, potential developments, parking surveys, traffic analysis)
- planning scalable parking capacity on the campus
- ensuring compliance with regulations, in particular the objectives of the legislation to accelerate renewable energies
- defining a new circulation plan
- the detailed parking study, feeding into the environmental impact assessment
- strategic choices, by contributing to consultation with the various stakeholders.
Results
The assignment is ongoing, but a master plan has already been developed.
A true roadmap, it sets out a clear and coherent trajectory for the campus’s development, integrating immediate challenges and a long-term vision, and establishing the structuring principles for its transformation.
