On March 20, the Meeting of the Federation of Urban Agencies of Morocco was held in Essaouira, convened under the theme “Urban Agencies Serving Innovation for Sustainable and Resilient Territories.” It was notably attended by the Minister of National Spatial Planning, Urbanism, Housing, and City Policy, Ms. Nouzha BOUCHAREB; the Advisor to His Majesty the King and founding president of the Essaouira-Mogador Association, Mr. André Azoulay; and the Governor of the Essaouira province, Mr. Adil El Maliki.
At the invitation of the Ministry of National Spatial Planning, Stratec and its partner VITO participated in a round table discussion on new technologies for urban planning to present the results of the urban growth modeling study in Marrakech and Tangier.
Our colleagues Sylvie Gayda and Thibaud Stephan, in collaboration with Tomas Crols from VITO, presented via video conference the urban growth modeling study for the cities of Tangier and Marrakech, which they have just completed.

This work, initiated in 2017, aimed to understand the urban dynamics of these territories to then anticipate the developments they could expect depending on the application of differentiated policies. The results enabled urban planning stakeholders (Ministry, urban agencies) to recognize the significant environmental challenges and the importance of implementing effective planning for the territories of these two cities.
