Construction of a New Stadium for Union Saint-Gilloise: Mobility and Impact Studies
Stratec was commissioned to provide assistance to the project owner and to support the architectural team for aspects related to mobility, accessibility, and environmental considerations for the construction of the new Union Saint-Gilloise stadium.

Context and Objectives
Two studies were conducted to assess the feasibility and subsequently to support the design of a new stadium on the Bempt site.
The first focuses on the challenges of mobility: parking availability and management, road, pedestrian, and public transport accessibility, public transport capacity, pedestrian space capacity, assessment of road congestion, and traffic flow organization.
The second concerns environmental and urban planning aspects: integrated rainwater management, assessment of impacts on the groundwater table, assessment of polluted land and land management, as well as urban planning constraints. It also included an Environmental Impact Report.
The aim was to demonstrate the project’s feasibility to territorial planning stakeholders (Forest Municipality, Brussels Environment, Brussels Mobility, Urban, Police, ministerial cabinets). Subsequently, the goal was to design an ambitious project in terms of environmental and mobility aspects.
Methodology
The mobility mission involved project management assistance (over 50 meetings, surveys, counts), the development of a multimodal model for 16,000 supporters, and specific micro-simulation tools for traffic (VISSIM, Visswalk).
The environmental mission involved subcontractors (infiltration, noise pollution, fauna/flora, soil pollution, groundwater table) and a pre-project analysis leading to the impact report.
Results
Both studies identified measures to optimise the project, reduce its impacts, and size the future stadium according to mobility needs and environmental constraints.
