Following the presentation by the Brussels government of its SmartMove kilometer-based road pricing project, it is worth recalling that Stratec has been involved in the subject of road pricing for years. Stratec’s transport economists have indeed carried out several consulting studies on this topic and have taken the time to present to the public – at the invitation of associations, trade unions, and media – the principles, advantages, and limitations of road pricing. These tools, which are still underutilised, indeed deserve to be considered to achieve the targeted objectives of reducing road congestion, greenhouse gas emissions, and urban air pollution.
