LUTI Model (Transport / Land Use)
Transport infrastructures are crucial in the medium and long term for territorial development and land use. While transport modeling traditionally focuses on mobility effects, with a constant territorial structure, tools have been developed to account for the interactions between transport and land use. LUTI (Land Use – Transport Interaction) models thus make it possible to evaluate public policies and better understand the long-term effects of transport infrastructures, once spatial restructuring effects have unfolded.
In Detail
Since the 1990s, Stratec has developed expertise in integrated Land Use-Transport modeling to fully account for the spatial and socio-economic effects of transport systems.
Using this complex modeling, Stratec has studied the various impacts of the future regional metro (RER) in Brussels and the Grand Paris Express, both in the short and long term, in the areas of mobility, household and business location, the socio-economic structure of areas, and environmental quality.
The effects of combined accompanying measures, pertaining to regulation, pricing (transport, parking), and land use allocation and taxation, have been tested.
In the various LUTI projects carried out by Stratec or to which Stratec has contributed, we have been able to experiment with different models: TRANUS, UrbanSim, DELTA, cellular automata. We have thus acquired specific expertise on the advantages and limitations of different LUTI modeling approaches.
